Situated in the west of Germany between Köln and Aachen close to the French & Dutch borders is KFA Juelich now known as Forschungszentrum Jülich a supercomputer centre that has hosted Cray systems and others. Introducing themselves with the words ..
The Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) at Forschungszentrum Jülich operates and develops supercomputers of the highest performance level. The JSC goes back to the first national centre for supercomputing in Germany, which was founded in 1987, and with the Jülich Institute for Advanced Simulation (IAS) it is continuing the long tradition of scientific computing at Jülich.
this site has stretched the capabilities of top performing Computer systems for decades.
Historical researchers on this organisation should note that there has been a couple of name changes along the way with records showing up as “KFA” and “FZJ” … from Wikipedia
The Society for the Promotion of Nuclear Physics Research (GFKF) was renamed Nuclear Research Centre Jülich (or KFA for short, which was taken from the German). Seven years later, it was converted into a limited liability company (GmbH), and in 1990, it was named Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH (or FZJ for short). The partners of Forschungszentrum Jülich are the Federal Republic of Germany (90%) and the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia (10%)
