After hearing a rumour that a Cray-2 went to Brazil I had a dig into the Archives – then was reminded that co-conspirator Alistair had spent some time in Brazil and had some inside knowledge. Turns out no Cray-2 but a couple of later systems did service in Brazil.
In Cray Chips from January 1989 this was found indicating that an office existed in Brazil prior to that date…
Gerardo revealed on Facebook ….
Later a 2021 article in DataCentreDynamics described how Tupa had become too expensive and was replaced with a same power but cheaper to run System.

A correspondent later revealed .. Tupa was replaced by Terra-ME an XE6.
Vanderlei Sais :
We had one installed in Brazil at INPE – CPTEC (Meteorological). It was turned off around 6 months ago, but still is assembled in INPE Datacenter. It was a 14 cabinets and 1272 compute nodes with Magny Cours processor. Name of this machine was Tupa.
And we also have a one cabinet XE6 which is still up and running in the same datacenter which is used by students to develop their thesis in Meteorological issues. The name of this system is Terra-ME. It is just 96 compute nodes of Interlagos processors.
