There is beauty in chips

It’s not often that the worlds of fashion and glamour intersect with the hard industrial process of creating a supercomputer. We are used to seeing how supercomputers have changed the world of engineering and technology but discovering this story during research into the 250 issues of Cray Chips was an unexpected angle.

With an interesting follow up story in Wikipedia

The move into broadcast journalism bumped into incidents of workplace toxicity and boorish behaviour with harassment that resulted in a lawsuit… From Wikipedia

In July 2016, Carlson filed a lawsuit against then Fox News chairman and CEO Roger Ailes, claiming sexual harassment.[3] Subsequently, dozens of other women also stepped forward to accuse Ailes of harassment,[4] and Ailes resigned under pressure. In September 2016 Carlson and 21st Century Fox settled the lawsuit reportedly for $20 million, and Carlson received a public apology.[5] Carlson was one of the first high-publicity cases of 2016’s #MeToo movement.

About which a 2019 film “Bombshell” was made staring Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson.

And today Gretchen continues as a journalist and advocate …

Editor’s Note

The glamour world of beauty contests has somewhat lost it’s shine along with the idea of judging folks just by their appearance rather than what they actually have done and achieved.  Gretchen’s story shows the importance of taking opportunities as they come along and that the world can be improved by taking bold and decisive action to highlight unacceptable behaviour.

As a first in this blog I am going to have to ask a fashion related question .. Does anyone have a photo of the “Chips Dress” ?  Replies via email to cray-history.net or via FB in “Cray Supercomputer fans”

PS: Gretchen was contacted via her website about this story but has not yet responded.
